Bulmers Kicks off Christmas Campaign

Posted in News on December 2nd, 2009

Bulmers will kick off its Christmas campaign tonight with the launch of its latest ad for Bulmers cider. Called “The Chosen One”, it features the now familiar orchard workers including Dessie and Liam who all jostle for the privilege of turning on the Bulmers Orchard Christmas tree lights.
Filmed on location in the Bulmers Orchards, Clonmel, the sixty second commercial celebrates the warmth and enthusiasm of the workers who are illuminated by the iconic ‘Bulmers Christmas Tree’ amid the soft frosty orchards at this time of year.
According to Stephen Kent, Marketing, Director, Bulmers, “this year’s Christmas TV commercial is a welcome relief to the current climate. The notion of ‘Pick Me’ is emotive and engaging as it should be at this special time of year, and this ad brings to life the Bulmers Christmas tree which has featured on posters for over a decade. Just like our Bulmers Original Irish Cider, Christmas wouldn’t be the same without it.”
The campaign is devised by Young Euro RSCG, and will run on TV and outdoor. The outdoor campaign featuring the Bulmers Christmas tree will run on 48 sheets for the month of December with 10 specials featuring a Bulmers snow-globe, as well as metropoles and dart cards.

Paddy Power Ad Targets Thierry Henry

Posted in News on December 2nd, 2009

Ireland’s largest bookmaker Paddy Power has launched a new advertising campaign targeting overseas visitors as they arrive into the country through the nation’s largest airport.

The tongue-in-cheek campaign which will run over the next two weeks sees the bookmaker take over the baggage hall in the Arrivals area of Dublin Airport through the strategic placement of 42 illuminated posters.

The advertising campaign welcomes visitors to beautiful Ireland with the exception of people named Thierry.

Paddy Power said “We’re a nation still reeling from last week’s controversial result in Paris so it’s refreshing to be able poke some fun back in Thierry’s direction. It’s a safe bet that he won’t be travelling through Dublin Airport anytime time but if he does our adverts will be waiting!”

Gamers get social media as Facebook comes to PS3

Posted in News on December 2nd, 2009

Sony is to incorporate Facebook with its PlayStation 3 games console joining rival Microsoft, which has added Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm to the Xbox 360.
In a blog post Sony said that the latest software update to the PlayStation will allow gamers to link their Facebook accounts to their PS3’s and share updates on their newsfeed including trophy wins on games such as controversial smash hit ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2′.
Sony is promising more integration with Facebook to come, but in the meantime PlayStation owners will be able to check updates and those of their friends on Facebook and Twitter as well as other social media sites through the PS3’s built-in browser.
The arrival of Facebook on the PS3 follows that of Microsoft announcing that it has added Facebook, Twitter, Zune and Last.fm to the Xbox 360.
With the latest update Facebook and Twitter can now be found in a newly added community channel with Last.fm in the music channel.
Most importantly with Facebook on the Xbox gamers will be able to find out which of their Facebook friends are also on Xbox Live. Other features include the ability to browse photos and update their status.
As for microblogging on the Xbox, gamers will have access to all the basic services available on Twitter including status updates, searches and trending topics.
Neil Thompson, senior director of entertainment division UK & Ireland and head of Xbox, said: “It’s the community that drives us forward, and it’s the community that allows us to pioneer new ways of connecting people through the entertainment they love.”
Last.fm brings playlists and personalised radio stations to the Xbox 360 experience with built in “Gamer Stations” with specially selected music for the Xbox Live community.
With Zune gamers get high quality video that they can share with up to seven friends through voice chat and avatar integration on the TV screen. Zune joins Sky Player, which has already been added to the Xbox.
One of the first movie treats for Xbox owners using Zune will be the chance to watch exclusive footage from James Cameron’s hotly anticipated science fiction movie ‘Avatar’, which is available from today.

RTE’s Drivetime gets first ever sponsor.

Posted in News on December 2nd, 2009

HSBC Corporate Banking Ireland is to be the first-ever sponsor of RTE Radio 1’s Drivetime programme. With 256,000 listeners, Drivetime is now 66,000 listeners ahead of its nearest national rival and the show now has more listeners tuning in than at any time in its history. The 9-month sponsorship deal begins on 4 January 2010. The announcement comes as RTE Radio confirms that 2009 has been the most successful year yet for radio sponsorship in RTE. Despite challenges in the marketplace, RTE Radio’s continued dominance in the ratings is making it a sound investment for businesses. Says Ronan Murphy, Sales and Marketing Manager, RTE Radio: “The Drivetime development is another indication, if any were needed, of the market’s indisputable confidence in RTE Radio. As Ireland’s most-listened to radio station, RTE Radio 1 is now the home of the most popular drivetime programme. The numbers speak for themselves. Certainly the level of renewals alongside new deals for existing sponsored shows and new deals for shows that have never had sponsors tells its own story.”
